BREMF

Year 9 Students from Dorothy Stringer and Cardinal Newman Schools have been working with composer Elspeth Brooke this term to create their own music in response to the opera La liberazione di Ruggiero by Francesca Caccini.

Ruggiero is the earliest surviving opera by a female composer, and the students saw a production at Brighton Early Music Festival in early November. They then worked with Elspeth to create their own compositions in response to the story, which they came together to perform on Wednesday 2nd December at St George’s Church, Kemptown.

This year’s Brighton Early Music Festival focused on Women, including the UK’s largest celebration of female composers of the past, and it was great to be able to share this music with the composers of the future!
