On 30 November 2016, 50 Year 9 musicians from Dorothy Stringer and Cardinal Newman Secondary Schools came together at St George’s Church, Kemptown to showcase their own compositions. Created as part of a 5-week project with SoundCity Partner Brighton Early Music Festival, the students worked with composer and workshop leader James Redwood exploring the themes and sound-world of Galileo, which they saw at BREMF.
Galileo was a new music-drama exploring the life and work of Galileo Galilei through the music he would have known. The students compositions sprang from the themes and music of the show, with titles including ‘Ground Bass’, ‘Telescopes’, ‘Magnification’, ‘Centre of the Universe’ and ‘Slowly Round the Sun’.
