The awards keep coming for Rhythmix!
Rhythmix are a finalist in two categories in the Children & Young People Now Awards 2017. They are a finalist in The Arts and Culture Award
the work they do as an organisation transforming lives through music. As well as being also been shortlisted in the Mental Health and Wellbeing Category their Music in Mind programme with children and young people with mental health issues. The winners will be announced 22nd November!
Rhythmix are a BBC Surrey and BBC Sussex Community Hero Award finalist - fingers crossed for the ceremony on 20th November! Listen out on BBC Surrey and BBC Sussex for interviews with Jo White from Rhythmix.
Jo White has been shortlisted for the Musicians' Union Inspiration Award in the Music Teacher Awards for Excellence. It is to acknowledge her outstanding work through Wishing Well Music in Healthcare. Wishing Well brings music directly to the bedsides of children and young people and older people with dementia in healthcare settings.
News from the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital
It's been a busy time for the Rhythmix Wishing Well Team at Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in recent months. Wishing Well musicians and children's hospital staff have worked for four years using bedside music making to relieve some of the anxiety and frustration that children in hospitals experience.
Princess Alexandra visited the Children's Critical Care at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital. She met with Rhythmix tutors and observed the fantastic work that they do on the children's ward.
Katie Melua and members of the BBC Children in Need team visited the team! Katie joined Wishing Well Musicians on the critical care ward at The Royal Alex children's hospital in Brighton to make music with children and families. Her beautiful voice and calm, kind presence helped create some wonderful connections and sweet memories. The staff enjoyed meeting her too!

The Rhythmix Wishing Well team are thrilled to be on the shortlist for the Emergency and Critical Care Nursing Times Award for the partnership at the the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Programme Manager Jo White and Critical Care Practitioner Janet Lee presented to the judging panel in September. Whilst the team ultimately didn't win it was incredible to be considered alongside some incredible nursing teams.
Rhythmix Mentioned in Landmark Report
''The time has come to recognise the powerful contribution the arts can make to our health and wellbeing.''
Recently the sector saw the release of a landmark report by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Arts, Health and Wellbeing. The inquiry report seeks to demonstrate how important the arts can be in improving people's health and well being. The report references an independent evaluation of Rhythmix's Music in Mind programme written by Dr Alison Daubney and Gregory Daubney MSc.
