Find out from Beat Goes On Director, Ollie Tumner on moving back to Brighton and what CPD opportunities Beat Goes On has to offer…
I recently moved back to my hometown of Brighton after six years of the excitement (and stress) of London. My time there was productive - I qualified as a secondary music teacher and started up my percussion workshop company Beat Goes On. But the lure of the beach and people who smile and actually talk to you (!) was always going to bring me back.
Brighton was, and still is, a great place to grow up. I was lucky enough to have access to many musical and other artistic opportunities through school, Brighton Youth Theatre and the local music service - many of my former teachers are now my colleagues!
I’d seen STOMP as a child many times, so when as an adult I ended up performing with them, it was a dream come true! I’ve now built on this experience, alongside my teaching experience, to develop Beat Goes On.
We deliver a range of percussion workshops and CPD for education and team-building events. These include -
[if !supportLists]STOMP-style Body Percussion
[if !supportLists][endif]Samba Drumming
[if !supportLists]Body Percussion with Literacy (based on our work with literacy specialist Pie Corbett)
[if !supportLists][endif]Junk Percussion
[if !supportLists]Boomwhackers and Bamboo Tamboo
I’ve been lucky enough to travel internationally with work, delivering workshops in Brazil, the Middle East, China, India and Europe and will be visiting South Korea for an Arts Week in June.
I’m also looking forward to developing long term projects in Brighton. There is a growing ‘body music’ community here, which I’m keen to join and help develop.
