Warm thank you for wonderfully generous donation to Music & Arts

Brighton & Hove Music & Arts would like to give a very warm thank you to Betty Skolnick for her generous and extremely kind donation of two saxophones to the service. Originally owned by her late husband, Sir David Watson, a great friend and supporter of the music service. Their donation will be of tremendous support to some of our most talented musicians.

Sir David acted as Director of Brighton Polytechnic, Vice Chancellor of its successor, the University of Brighton and Professor of Higher Education at Oxford University. Amongst this, and many others, his talents included piano and saxophone. He joined Andy Sherwood, Music & Arts Director of Music for Orchestra, in conducting BYO at a number of concerts. What stood out above all was his kindness, honesty and integrity.

Sir David’s beloved widow Betty Skolnick has donated two high quality Yamaha Saxes. One soprano sax – given to Sir David upon his retirement from the University of Brighton. The other an alto Yamaha YAS 62 which Betty gave to her husband at his 40th birthday.

These instruments are invaluable to the Music & Arts service and will be treasured and used by advanced students enabling them to play better and progress further. We hope this will be a small way to remember Sir David for years to come.
