BHMA take over Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts!

Every year Brighton & Hove Music & Arts host a Summer School giving young musicians the chance to get involved in fun music activities. Our aim is to give musicians aged 6 to 16 a more intensive and immersive experience, developing new skills and working with others to really boost their musical progress.

Each course is led by experienced, specialist music leaders and is designed specifically for young musicians of different ages and standards. There are 18 courses across a fortnight from Singing Fun Day to Summer Strings to Garageband and every course includes a celebration performance where young musicians can show their performance skills to friends and family.

There are courses for children with no prior experience through to more advanced players, with young people of all ages coming together at the fantastic Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts for a fortnight of music making.

‘We’re so lucky to use a state of the art venue like the Attenborough Centre,’ said Emma Collins, Learning & Partnerships Manager at BHMA. ‘There is always such a lovely atmosphere at Summer School and the whole place is buzzing. Students respond well to being in this inspirational space and play brilliantly as a consequence. The teachers are always impressed by how much progress the children make.’

Attending Summer School helps to boost enthusiasm for practising and playing over the summer holiday and following their experience, many children also choose to join our Music Centre, where they can take part in ensemble activities throughout the year.
