Join a Music Group – Places available now!

Primary aged children learning to play violin

Did you know that children who have just started learning a musical instrument can join our Music Centre activities as early as January 2020?

Playing in a music group is a fantastic way to develop your musical skills, boost motivation and progression and have fun while making new friends. At Brighton & Hove Music & Arts's (BHMA) Music Centre we offer activities for all ages and abilities – beginning with Saturday morning classes for children after their first term of learning. So if your child has started learning an instrument with BHMA this term, they may be nearly ready to join one of our groups.

If you play strings, woodwind, brass or percussion then you can join our Saturday morning Music Centre which takes place at Varndean School. We also run Drum Kit Technique classes on Monday evenings. These weekly classes are delivered in a fun and friendly atmosphere, as young musicians work towards a performance at the end of each term.

BHMA also offers an exciting programme of ensembles and music groups for young musicians of all ages and standards. We have 3 orchestras, 2 wind bands, Jazz Band, Big Band, Percussion Ensemble, String Ensemble and Orchestra 360 – an inclusive ensemble for young people with Special Educational Needs/Disabilities, their parents/carers and siblings. These groups rehearse all year round and work towards performances at different venues in the city and beyond. There are also opportunities to take part in national festivals such as Music for Youth and international tours.

Many groups still have places available for this academic year and so it is not too late to apply!
