NEWS: Brass pilot project a success at Varndean School
Four classes from Year 7 have been taking part in this ptrumpet/pbone project, the first of its kind in a school in Brighton & Hove.
Varndean School supplied the instruments and Sarah Leeves from BHMA is delivering the project with the support of the class teacher Miss Rathbone who said “it’s been such a fantastic opportunity for the students to play an instrument besides keyboards. Their faces lit up when they saw the different colours and their enthusiasm for playing has been wonderful”.
Following completion of the project, pupils are encouraged to continue learning trumpet or trombone on BHMA’s main instrumental scheme. Some pupils have already signed up and will start small group lessons in January.
William Deighan, Headteacher said “It has been wonderful to see the students throw themselves into this project. It follows our belief that learning an instrument is not a luxury but a right.”
Kieran, aged 11 said “it’s been really exciting and fun learning trombone. It makes a really good sound”.
