A message from Brighton’s Youth Mayor – a music education alumni!
Our Youth Mayor, Hanna Ward-Penny, is a member of Brighton Youth Orchestra and Brighton Youth Orchestra String Ensemble; takes part in our SoundCity: Speaks network; and came to SoundCIty 2 event. We couldn’t ask for a better advocate – read on to find out what she had to say about the Hub.
“Having been the Youth Mayor of Brighton and Hove for over a year now, I have met so many great and inspiring young people throughout the city, at lots of different events. One of the most memorable was being part of the recent ‘SoundCity 2’ gig. It was great to see so many talented young people brought together by music, to celebrate music, and performing such an array of genres."
“I also performed on the night as I’m a member of the Brighton Youth Orchestra String Ensemble, and although the nerves were overwhelming, it was an unforgettable experience, and I hope everyone enjoyed the night just as much as I did."
“Having been part of the music service for as long as I can remember, I have experienced so many of the benefits music has to offer. From boosting my confidence to speak and perform in front of people, to encouraging me to meet a diverse range of new people, many of which I am now lucky enough to call my closest friends."
“As a member of the Brighton Youth Orchestra I have also been participating in the Hub’s “The SoundCity: Speaks” Network where young people come together to help shape and improve SoundCity. It’s so important that we all contribute to the development of our Hub. Whether you are learning an instrument, singing or taking part in workshops and ensembles, your voice is vital in the growth and advancement of the Hub, and your opinions are greatly appreciated."
“Finally, let us not forget the fantastic award that we have just won for the “most innovative hub”. I can only hope that the Music Service and its partners can continue to provide such incredible musical experiences for all the young people of Brighton and Hove, as I have experienced myself.”
