SoundCity 2 – our festival in one night!

SoundCity 2, our ‘festival in one night’ at the Corn Exchange in March, brought together young people from across the city in a series of creative collaborations, from ‘punk to Bach to jazz to Irish folk to gospel’.

The event involved over 180 performers from 10 different SoundCity partner organisations, who performed to an audience of 400. The show was live streamed and attracted over 1400 viewers from the UK and beyond.

Cllr Sue Shanks, Chair of the Children & Young People Committee, said: “After the success of last year’s SoundCity, this year’s event is an exciting way to celebrate the musicians of now and the exceptional talent forged in the city’s schools, studios and bedrooms. Brighton & Hove has a fantastic track record of nurturing a diverse range of musical talent … and events such SoundCity only serve to strengthen the city’s credentials.”

Kevin Grist, South East Relationship Manager for Music Hubs at Arts Council England, said: “Music Education Hubs are about encouraging a more diverse music education offer for children and young people and nurturing musical talent. SoundCity’s vision resonates strongly for us as we believe that access to the arts and culture has a profound impact on young people’s educational development and future job prospects.”
