Meeting, connecting, learning at our Joint Practice Development Day
More than 120 music leaders – from school teachers to community musicians – explored ideas and techniques to help them in their work, at our recent Joint Practice Development Day.
Those attending included music teachers from primary, secondary and special schools, community musicians, instrumental/vocal teachers, independent practitioners, university students and representatives from the SoundCity partnership.
They heard a motivating keynote speech about the power of partnership from Sean Gregory, Director of Creative Learning for the Barbican Centre and Guildhall School of Music & Drama, before moving on to practical workshops and presentations, covering a range of hot topics in music education.
Guest speakers and workshop leaders came from across SoundCity and beyond to share ideas ranging from the use of iPads in the music classroom to exploring English folk songs and their links to the curriculum, Figurenotes/introductions to musical notation, percussion ‘playshops’ and Gamelan.
One of our Twitter followers (@Longhill_Music) said: Great day at #brightonhovejpdd – lots of new ideas to try out, including a spot of Mozart…
The day began and ended with practical music-making, with all delegates taking part in a Big Sing in Varndean’s amphitheatre before leaving – a fantastically musical way to end an inspiring and thought-provoking day!
The day was held at Varndean School and led by SoundCity and the Connected Schools Partnership.
