Schools Christmas Concert

BHMA Schools Christmas Concert  - biggest school involvement for years!

With 41 schools and over 1300 children taking part on Monday 8 December at the Brighton Centre, this year’s concert is going to be the largest display of Brighton and Hove’s young vocal talent in recent memory. The Vocal Team are currently enjoying visiting all schools to take choirs in their final preparations.

The massed choir will be singing some well known festive melodies as well as some newly composed material by young people from Hillside, Downs Park and Downs View Schools with James Redwood. Other performers on the night will be the Brighton and Hove Youth Big Band and Youth Percussion Ensemble. The Percussion Ensemble is also collaborating with performers from 5 schools in a new work called “Bodywork” – a body percussion piece written as a creative response to the BBC Ten Pieces body percussion piece by Anna Meredith. The whole concert will be preceded with a Festive Brass Ensemble performance in the Brighton Centre Foyer to entertain the performers and audience as they arrive.

Laura van der Heijden, Sir John Tomlinson and Richard Durrant are just some of the celebrities backing encore - the new alumni network for the Brighton Youth Orchestra with an initial call out for photographs and archive material.
